Social Media for Small Business

Social Media for Small Business with Janis Curry

How to attract, engage and retain customers using social media

Social media networks like Facebook and Twitter aren't just for sharing pictures of cats in teacups and cute photos of our kids. They are a way to spark a real conversation with potential customers, to build trust, to demonstrate your expertise or knowledge, to add a bit of personality to your growing brand, and to answer their questions quickly. When you get it right, your ideal customers will happily choose you over a competitor, and they're more likely to come back time and time again.

Over the course of the day, we will look at how to deeply understand your customers, how to plan your social media content for maximum impact, how to use influencers and ambassadors to spread your message further, how to run a live chat or competition to drum up interest and grow your audience, how to target particular messages to specific places, ages groups or interests, and how to let the world know about your amazing products or services without bombarding them.

Most of the course will focus on things you can do for free - in other words, effective marketing strategies that just need commitment from you in terms of time. Depending on the group's interests, we can also spend a little bit of time looking at what you can do with a small marketing budget, such as target ads and boosted posts.

Come prepared with a laptop or iPad and a notepad, some ideas about what your main goals are for 2015 and 2016, and 3 brands, magazines or businesses whose social media content you genuinely enjoy.
